Took a media course in 2012, one of our projects was to create a public service announcement (PSA) related to health and fitness. My PSA was geared towards helping Filipino immigrants to Canada remain physically active in winter, a season never experienced in the tropics.
I constructed a website, a mobile website, a logo, and a couple of posters to achieve this goal, putting together Filipino symbols with Canadian concepts to create a "hybridized" idea of what it means to be a Filipino-Canadian, helping immigrants create a new self-identity.
Galaw sa Ginaw is can be directly translated from Tagalog to English as "Moving in the Cold".

All of the models I used on the site were my Filipino friends, all of whom were dressed in winter clothes.
I intended to create interactive maps that allowed users to identify nearby venues that can be used as areas of physical activity (i.e. skating rinks, parks, indoor facilities, and skiing resorts)
Following the idea of hybridization, I made a couple of posters that did just that. The first one mixed a taho seller and ice skates. Taho is a common street food in the Philippines, consisting of tofu, caramelized sugar and tapioca balls.
The second poster mixed a jeepney and a snowmobile. Jeepneys are a primary form of public transportation all over the Philippines.
In searching for a logo, it took a couple of tries before I used the same hybridization concept.
But what image of winter can you merge with the Philippine flag?
